The shuttle is fully accessible.
Can I just wait on the roadside at Newcastle?
No. Red Route zones operate across the airport's road network and the surrounding area, so stopping to wait is not allowed. If you are early, the Waiting Zone is the place to sit — which is easier to judge if you leave at the right time in the first place.
